03-30-2022 05:38 PM. I've got a '68 13' Whaler. Two years ago I repowered it from a 25 hp Mercury 2 stroke to a 40 hp Mercury 4 stroke. There are zero issues with the increased weight while driving the boat even with a notched transom. Like yours, mine sat stern high with the older engine and it doesn't sit too low with the 40.

Look at the difference between the two hulls in question. The Outrage has a much deeper "V" hull. It requires a larger motor, will use more fuel but will handle the offshore conditions much better. It came in around $2300.00 that was the jet version and I am paying $2350.00 Figure I cant to hurt with it. Do yourself a favor and buy a Whaler 15 with a 50 yamaha instead. Or a 13. ( backing they would not be beneficial unless they had aft edge angled up so they don't shovel. But I'd expect angled aft edge could also induce drag in forward from reduced water pressure there.)
