Short Term Boiler Repair I had a 20+ year old boiler in need of a leak repair. I repaired with 1/4 thick steel plates cut to size, held in place with wedges, nuts, bolts & clamps. Had every crazy idea to seal that leak except hay wire. Actual seal surfaces had soft Teflon Gortex caulking & everything coated inside with high temperature Permutex.

I've watched people try (unsuccessfully) to braze cast iron--if there is any sort of crack the heat of brazing makes it grow. Haven't seen it done successfully but have heard of two ways: 1) Heat the cast iron to around 500° before brazing.

Hello, I have a very old cast iron boiler. Gas fired. We have a internal leak. It starts up and runs, but after a while, water is leaking onto the flame sensor, the pilot goes out. I have to go and restart the boiler and do the process as least 2, 3 times a day. I am worried about when the real cold hits I will not beable to keep this going.
